Hey people, how did your weekend go... hope no one is pregnant or have their car hanging off third-mainland bridge?
have you ever been to any of the popular orphanages in Lagos Nigeria? Went recently with a friend and almost ended up asking the children there for some business contacts. When we walked into the building i began to feel less-privileged and was about to ask for a plate to be passed round on my behalf when my friend reminded me we were the givers not givees.
Wow, the kids in this orphanage had more swag than me and Don-Jazzy put together. While they showed us round the place, from their living-quarters to the dinning and surrounding, i felt like taking off my wedding-ring, telling them i was an ophan too and inquire how soon i can move in.
You need to have seen these kids, they had confidence that made 'you' the good-will giver feel out of place... their politeness sounded almost condescending and they dressed like they should be giving out fashion tips to us.
My friend even had to edit some of the gifts he went with, to avoid the embarasment of 'small-pikin' returning some cheap beverages to us.
Its good to give stuff to orphans everywhere but i feel many Nigerians concentrate on the popular orphanages for whatever reason, though i personaly feel some of us want to go places that would turn out pretty on their facebook wall.
Please my people, orphans in Mushin and Ajegunle are still orphans o, lets spread the love abeg!
Was really impressed at how the kids in the popular orphanage i went looked but we need to remember other smaller and not so posh ones too.
...Or just maybe its time the very big orphanages start giving alms to the smaller ones...lol
Ciao!
