Why are
rich people quick to say how they understand what the poor people are going
through?
Recently
I watched the presentation of some kind of funding to some Nigerians who
appeared genuinely grateful to the ‘kind’ gesture of their government. The
recipients of the minuscule-funds were addressed by a top government official
who if you ask me should resign her job and seek employment as an actor in
Hollywood, considering the expression with which she claimed to understand what
these humble-souls are going through.
One of
the recipients got support for his shoe-making business and our dear
government-puppy praised and even went as far as comparing the shoes to the
ones that come from Europe, Asia and America... Now my question is... Aunty, can
you honestly tell us that you would go without cameras and News-crew to buy the
guy’s handcrafted well-made shoes? Or is all that talk just to make us believe
you understand ‘what he is going through’ in your quest to win another election
for your unrepentant bosses?
Imagine
somebody who graduated from Harvard telling a graduate of Kogi state university
that she understands what they are going through... No offense to my Kogi state
students by the way...but it is annoying.
If you say you understand what Mark Zuckerberg is going through, I
wouldn’t be complaining but don’t come playing ‘one of us’ because you
obviously aint! Please remain in your million dollars/ Billion Naira league, as
that’s all I hear when you are talked about on television... You understand my
f**king foot!
For somebody who understands what the poor
people in Nigeria are going through, you don’t seem to have a clue how much it
would take to put a foot across poverty line in this country. I don’t even want
to start with how much money was given to our dear lucky cash recipients but...
between me, you and the other lame dude at the helm of affairs, you guys know
that amount of money is what you probably buy one pair of the shoes you truly
wear... without the cameras I mean... rubbish!
