Why do certain individuals and some
Nigerian TV-stars go to orphanages, take pictures and post them on facebook,
twitter and BBM, telling us how they spent their birthdays with orphans, as if these
children are beneath them and they should be commended for condescending so low.
I find it derogatory when I hear how you gave food and clothes to orphans and
everybody must hear about it. How would you feel if everybody who gave you some
form of financial assistance put it up on TV or newspapers? That they are underprivileged
does not strip them of their emotions. We cannot keep humiliating them... Keep
your bloody camera crew to yourselves.
Every Tom, Dick and Harry who
starts an online NGO must go and take photos with orphans or widows to
compliment the purpose of their two-dollar organization, basically using these
poor souls for self advancement and popularity, forgetting they are equally
human beings who are entitled to their pride and privacy. This is a dishonest
way to show kindness and it is high-time people stopped this crap!
I even heard once that the
children of a certain orphanage in Lagos-Nigeria refused to take pictures with certain
celebrities, sighting how they had been taking pictures day-in day-out for
every inconsequential gift they receive... The children even went further to advice
visitors wishing to take pictures to... ‘’please go on the internet, copy and
paste our photos from previous celebrity visits!’’.
I think its high time people wishing
to upgrade their popularity status with photos from orphanages begin to pay
tax... or what do you think?
To be continued...
